J A circular issued, to contributors sta«s» that tho Minister for Education will be prepared to recommend the Teachers' Superannuation Board to extend the pro vidians of Section 12 of tho Public Service Ciu_sincation and Superannuation Amendment Act 1903, on any of the following grounds:— (l) That tho contributor has length of service, as defined by the Act, of not le_s than thirty years, and such length ol other similar service in. some part or parts of the British Umpire as would mako his total _erviec so xeokoned not less than forty years (in the cag© of reraalo contributor.?, twenty-five and thirty years respectively); (2) That in the opinion of an approved medical officer and of an inspector of schools or other person named by tho Minister, tho contributor having length of service, as defined by the Act, of not less than twenty year*, *.how_ such diminution of physical or mental power as is likely to unfit him permanently for the efficient performance of the duties of his position or of a similar position, although ho may r.ot bo then medically unfit for further duty within tho meaning of tho Act; (3) that in the opinion of an approved medical officer the contributor having length of service as defined by the Act of not less than twenty years, is in such a physical or mental condition that he cannot perform the duties of his position without risk of serious injury to his health, although he may not then bo medically unfit for further duty within tho meaning of tho Act. Tho circular concludes:—''There may he other reasons more or le.<rs similar to these named above, which tho Minister may consider afford sufficient grounds for favourable consideration. On receipt of nn application for a retiring allowance beforo reaching the age of sixty-fivo years, supported hy documentary evidence l*>nring on any of the conditions stated above, or on any otlter special condition, the case will receive careful consideration."
