j ♦ The Canterbury Highland Rifles went into camp at Mr Arthur Hancock's paddock, St. Martin's, on Monday, under Captain Stewart. The camp is pleasantly and suitably situated, on the banks of the Heathcote, and the adjoining hillside has been placed at the disposal of the corps for ' manoeuvring purposes. The corps was exercised in skirmishing on Monday, and afterwards at a camp-fire meeting Private W. E« Craig was elected a lieutenant, vice Mr Pow* , rie, of the Tenth Contingent, resigned. There were fifty of all ranks on parade. The Civil Service Rifle* and the Sydenham Rifles did skirmishing work on the ,& Port Hills on Monday night. The Sydenham Rifles placed outposts, and the Civil Service Rifles attempted to get through their lines, and had > almost succeeded when the assembly* sounded. Thq Amuri Mounted Rifks will fire their final matches on the 21st inst. at Culverden. In the morning the Mendip Cup (2CO, 500 and 700 yds), and Captain Thomson matches (10 shots at 300 yds), ■ will be fired by those qualified in the preliminary matches. In the afternoon ths field firing for tlie Lance Shield will take place, those competing in the Mendip Cup being eligible. <
