FIRES.
I * ' ! OUTBREAK AT THE DRILL SHED. Shortly before one o'clock this morning Constable Irwin noticed a reflection of light through the Drill Shed, and on investigation found tliat the building was on fire at the south end. He gave the alarm to tlie Brigade from the Police Station, and all the plant turned out promptly. It appears that some sacking in the vicinity of a number of empty ammunition boxes "at the southern end of tlie building, had by some means become ignited. A.though the building was full of smoka the outbreak, which had not had sufficient time to get a* good hold, was put out in a few minutes by the Lichfield street chemical engine. A six-roomed house at Amberiev, ownEd by Mr Tourat.and occupied by MrDawson, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday. Tlie outbreak was caused by sparks from a copper setting fire to a birds nest on the roof.
