A new volcano has made its appearance iv the island of Riri, from which huge volumes of dense smoke are emitted at intervals, while violent earthquakes have been experienced. The Governor-General has received a petition from a representative Protestant body, requesting that steps should be taken to investigate Cardinal Moron's charges in connection with the British naval operations in t>ainoa. THE RECENT SHEARING DISPUTE. (Received February 17tu, 11.29 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 17. The Australian Workers' Union applied to the Equity Court to vary the rule absolute for sequestration of funds, in connection with the verdict given against the Union over the Coonamble shearing dispute, on condition that tlie Union paid £800 into Court. The Judge decided to vary the order if £1400 and costs were paid in by Monday next.
