CORRESPONDENCE.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—l think it is time that the business men of the city came to some definite arrangement as to the days to be observed as holidays. The confusion that occurred on the occasion of the cricket match is etrong evidence that some agreement should be arrived at that would obviate the necessity of the various trades running about and enquiring what day should be observed. I would suggest that a representative should be selected from " each trade, with power to decide. Tlie secretary of the Employers' Society could arrange for them to meet in time, and their decision should be binding on all concerned. We should then know what to do, and so avoid the unsatisfactory spectacle of some closing one day and some another. As this is a matter that affects all employers, I hope the officials of the Society will bestir themselves. Tt only needs a little energy .on their part to effectually remedy the present conditions. — Yours, etc., SHOPKEEPER.
