Mr E. G. Temple, Mr H. Crowe, Mr A. White. Mr W. 11. Caw (Chief Traffic Manager Government Railways), Mr J. Coom (Chief Engineer), and Mr James Burnett (Inspecting Kngmeer) went South by the express ye-sterday morning. " Mr D. Rutherford (Leslie Hills) and Mr W. O. Rutherford (Montrose) went by the North'train yesterday morning. Mr A. G. Sleight holme (London) and Mr H. Kiworthy (Timaru) were recent callers at'the local agency of the Tourist Department. St. Michael's Schoolroom was crowded to excess last evening, when ah entertainment was held to wish success to the Rev. J. A. Julius, curate of the pariah, who has been appointed vicar of Wuikari. Canon Averill, who took the chair, spoke most appreciatively of the work done by Mr Julius during his two years' service in tha parish, especially in connection with the choir and with the Boys' Guild, which he had founded and taken a keen interest in. He presented Mr Julius with a handsomely-framed photograph of the choir, and said that Waikari, in liis opinion, might be congratulated upon its new curate. A number of musical items were given, and -some excellent limelight vicws*of Scottish scenery were shown. Mr Julius was previously presented with a case of pipes by the Boys' Guild. His Honour Mr Justice Ward arrived from Springfield yesterday. Among the arrivals by the express last night were: —Mr G- Laing-Meason (Timaru), Mr A. S. Patterson (Melbourne), Mr A. M. Shaw (Australia), Mr J. .A. Gilruth (Wellington), Mr P. Patulio (Otago), Mr and Mrs P. Kelly (Dunedin), Mr, Mrs, and Master Baeyertz (Dunedin), and Mr and Mrs Duncan Cameron (Methven). Visitors to Christehuroh include Mr and Mra Milne, Mr G. Rutherford, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Grimwode, and Mr and Mrs MilneMr Andrew Orr, of Ashburton, intends to pay a visit shortly to the Old Country, where lie has nob been for 26 years. He will be accompanied by Mrs Orr and Miss Alice Orr. His present intention is to leave the colony by the s-s. Rimutaka, which sails from Wellington on March 19th.
Miss Lorimar, who is leaving Riverside School to be married shortly, has been presented with several tokens of the esteem in which she is held by parents, children, and Committee in the district. At a meeting called for this purpose, Mr Maxwell, chairman of the School Committee, presented Miss Lorimer, on behalf of the residents of Riverside, with a dinner set and set of carvers, and Master A. Smith presented her with a clock on behalf of the school children. Mr P. Curtis, the postmaster of Lyttelton, is under notice of transfer to the North Inland. It is understood that Mr Curtis lias been appointed to the position of assistant inspector at Auckland. The Wellington correspondent of "Tie Press" telegraphs that Mr Prouse, the well-known VVeilington singer, last night received a telegram asking him to proceed to Dunedin to sing at Melba's concert on Wednesday. He was just in time to ratch the Rotomnhana.
