DOMAIN BOARD.
The adjourned meeting of the Domain Board- was held yesterday. Present— Messrs Murray-Aynsley (chairman), H. G. Ell, M.H.R., W. Jacques, S. A. Staples, Mayors of Linwood and Christchurch, and the Hon. C. C. Bowen. It was resolved that the Board meet on the first Monday in each month at 2 p.m. $ A letter from the Riccarton Road Board was read, asking that the clippings should not bo put in heaps on the road. The Secretary said that he had written to the clerk of the Board, pointing out that the ksseea of the Park trimmed the fences, and they were the persons who should be called upon. It was resolved to write to the lessees on the "matter. In reply to the Mayor of Christchurch, the Chairman said tile leases at present in force expired in August next. A letter was read from Messrs Bet-wick and Harris regarding the position of the Board with reference to the taking oi bicycles into the Park. Their opinion was that the BoaTd, having given notice that certain parts of the Park would be open to traffic, was an unsatisfactory state of things.. This meant that vie Board might give notice to a cyclist under the by-laws, if he misconducted himself, that he would not be allowed in the Park. But this created a kind of distinction, as the bylaw only applied to a certain part of the public. " For this reason the solicitors advised that a new by-law should be made dealing with the "question of admitting bicycie? into tlie Park. It was resolved that the Executive, in conjunction with the solicitors of the Board, take steps to have a new by-law prepared and submitted to the next meeting of the Board. The Chairman said so far as he remembered, nothing had ever been done by the Domain Board to the bridge at M en " vale since it was under the Provincial Government. It was in a somewhat bad stat«, and tha Mayor of St. Aibans had called attention to it. A report from the head gardener was read, stating that the bridge wws in a decidedly, bad condition. The Chairman said the destruction of the gat« and* bridge at this point had been both determined and persistent. After some discussion it was resolved that a letter be sent to the St. Albana Borough
______-_-_-_---_--__-____----_«__-_■_ Council, stating that the Board wt>_W be willing to pay half the cost of *h* urgently necessary repairs to the bridge, the St. Albans Borough CouncUTdoing the work, as they possessed afl the The question of the erection of a new permanent footbridge is to stand over for the present. Mx Ell brought np the matter of persons being prevented taking their ita-ohe* in the I'ark, as mentioned in a letter to one of the papers. Ho was most strongly of opinion that no such interference should take place. He thought that they should arrange for boxes to be placed in "certain parts of tho Park for the reception of lunch papers. The question of placing boxes in the Park was referred to the Executive to carry out. i -in .
