MR WARNER'S OPINION OF THE CANTERBURY MEN.

(SPECIAL TO "THE THESS.") DUNEDIN, February 13. Mr Warner, Speaking of the Canterbury team, said it was a very good side, and fielded splendidly. Frankierh and Callaway are two 'very good , bowlers. The wicketkeeper was good, and several batemen showed considerable promn*. Reese played a vexy fine Innings indeed. Some" of his strokes were splendid, and his innings was full of delightful cricket. Aβ a fieldsman Reese was one of the best he had seen at extra cover. Orchard was also favourably commented on as a fieldsman. So far the Dest side they had met was that at Christchurch. His team was a good average English county team, and if it went, in for the county championship it could be safety depended upon to come out not lower down than fourth or fifth at the end of the season. Taking that estimate as a standard, Mr Warner was asked what success a New Zealand Eleven might expect to have against the English counties, but he declined to express any opinion on the relative merits o£ a New Zealand team until he had seen the New Zealand team playing in the test matches.
