♦ (PBES3 ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM.) •AUCKLAND, February 12. A epeeial meeting , of the City Council was held to-night to cottsider the financial -position. The Mayor mioyed—"That th* Finance Committee 'i>e instructed to confer with the city solicitor with a. view of altering the.incidence of taxation whereby ordinary interest of the water Joan shall be charged to the water account, thus enabling the special -rate to be reduced, and the general rate correspondingly increased without adding to the total amount of the rates paid. He said tbe estimates ehowed that on the present, rating ba«ie they •would go back over £4000 jnext year, but the propoeed alteration would provide nearly that sum for general piirpoeee. The motion was carried, it was aw> resolved that tke town cleave ascertain the pontion of the Fire Brigades Bill, and that a committee, interview the Premier on. tie «ufoject.
