Mr C. Clark, Lady MoKenzie, and Miss McKenzic were piiaseagers to Hanmer by yesterday morning's train. Captain A. A. Fooks, of the A-shburton Mounted Itiflee, has received the award ot the Colonial Auxiliary Foroce officers' decoration. Mr John Anderson, E. Lane, Mr (J. Magnus, 'Mr J. L. Wood burn, and Mr E. Woodburn went South by the express yesterday morning. Lieutenant-Colonel Webb, officer commanding the Canterbury Volunteer and Militia District, has received instructions to proceed to Wellington on Saturday, and tako up his duties as officer commanding the Wellington district on the 15th in&t. The. officers of the garrison are arranging to meet Colonel Webb at the Garrison Library to-morrow night to suy goo(>>ye to him. The Lyttelton corps paraded" last night to bid farewell to Colonel Webb. Kecent callers at the local office of the Tourist Departntent were:—'Rev. and M-ie R. Dalison, Powerstodc, Dorset, England; Dr. Lister, Ararat, Victoria; Mr E. A. Harrie, Timaru ; Mr Jam<?s Morton, junr., Norwich, Conn,, U.S.A. ; Mr James WeeJH, .Sydney, in.u.Vv.; and Miss B. Allaway, Whangarei.
Mr and Mrs G. Williamson (Wellington), Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Taylor, Mr A. Knight, Mr A. A. Gaffuey, Mr W. Barton, Mr and Mrs A. Walker and Miss Walker (Edinburgh), Miss H. M. McLaren, and Mr A. Bond (Hororata), axe in town. Mr F. €'. Petheriok left by the. north train yesterday morning.
Mr N. D. Hood has been appointed Colonial Inspector of Aiachinery and Examiner of Engineers under the Shipping and Seamen's Act. Bishop Grimes was a passenger to town last evening from ' Hanmer Springs. Messrs W. 0. and D. Rutherford, and A. Macfarlane were passengers to town by last evening's North train. Mr James Gray (Dunedin), Mr A. Johnston C. Brown, Mr W. A. Hervey, Mr G. A. Thompson, Mr Gooding, Mrs OrbeLl, Mr J. Bonifant, Mr W. Lowrie, Mr Hervey Crowe, Mx E- G. Temple, Mr HerT. Jolly, Mr W. E. Jolly, Mr and Mrs Leon Cohen (Wellington), Mr R. Finley, Mr A. Robinson (Cheviot), Mr J. X Henrys (Wellington), Mr and Mrs Watson, and Mr and Mrs R*ed arrived in town yesterday.
Mr A. K-night left by yesterday's steamer for Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Cowie Nichols, Mrs Nichols, Mr W. H. Nichols, Mr C. Nichols, Mr and Mrs Blair-White, and Mr and Mrs Junor Smith left for the North by last night's steamer.
The Governor's son, Lieutenant Viscount Northland, arrived at Timaru in company with Lord Ranfurly and Major Alexander, by the express from the South la«t evening. The South Canterbury Mounted Rifles paraded at the station to welcome Lieutenant Northland, who has just returned "from South Africa. The mounted men formed a guard of honour round the Governor's carriage, and escorted it as the party left town for Clarernont.
