A correspondent states that the crops in the Methven district are looking particularly well. The farmers there did not ex■perience the weather phenomena that iharxied their k*s fortunate brethren in other parte of Canterbury, and consequently their fields of wheat and oats have a healthy appearance. The former crop ia expected to Average about 46 and the latter 50 bushels to the acre. A fciw ripe patches arc now being cut, but the bulk of the crop will not w ready for the machine for a fortnight, when a very busy season ie anticipated. Dr. Pomare, Native Health Officer, has Inst returned from the Taupo district (save the 'INew Zealand Timee"), thus completing his tour of every little corner of the colony where a Maori population exists, including tne Chatham Islands. Up to the present Dr. Pomare has had to do a great deal of extra work in the way of attending medically upon the natives.
