At the Supreme Court, John Shanahan and Walter Simmons, found guilty of robbery with violence, were sentenced respectively to two and a balif and two years' imiprisonment, with hard labour. Claries Harkad and James* Cunningham, on charg«e of tbeffc and being illegally on premieea, each received a sentence of seven months , imprisonment, with hard labour. DUNTEDIN, February 10. The * following prisoners who pleaded "Guilty" in the lower Court, were sentenced by Mr Justice Williams to-day: —Daniel Hurley, alias John Sheehan, stealing from a dwelling, twelve months, to commence after the sentence he is now serving; Robert McCartney, for assault with intent, three months; Elizabeth Ward, for theft, two years. NAPIER, February 10. At .the Supreme Oourt Court to-day John Johnston, who pleaded guilty to burglary, was admitted to probation, as it appeared that the prisoner was somewhat weak- j minded, and had been led into the commission of the offence. James Johnstone and Patrick Sheehan were found not guilty of robbery from a. Maori. In 'the (Divorce Court, in the petition of Janet Minchin, of Tarawera, for an order annulling her marriage with Joseph Robinson Stuart, a decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute in tforee months. From the evidence it appeared that the parties were married at Auckland in October, 1900, and that fourteen days after the ceremony Stuart left the petitioner, alleging that he was already a married man, and had a wife living in New South Wales. Petitioner then made enquiries, and secured a copy of the marriage certificate from New South Wales. There was no appearance of the respondent to the suit, his whereabouts being unknown.
