* DISTRICT COUNCIL MEETING! The District Council of the Independent Order of Rechaibitee, Now Zealand Central District No. 86, opened its sittings ait. the Oddfellows' Hall yesterday morning. Bro. 'Palmer (Christohurch), H. Cooper, J. J. Weeney, and J. EL Kissel (Invercargill), A. Olsen (iNoreewood), G. H. Forbes (Oγmondville), T. Eas»n (Woodville), F. W. Temple (QHasterton), T. W. The officers present were:—Bros. W. Stead, D.C.R., J. Whitaker, D.D.R., W. J. Gaudin, P.D.C.R.; T. Fathers, District Superintendent Juvenile Branches; A. J. Bennett, District Treasurer ; and Hon. F. H. Fraser, District I Secretary..* A resolution congratulating Bro. the Hon. F. H. Fraser, M.L.C., District. Secretary, upon his recovery from sickness, was carried unanimously. , * Fraternal greetings were received from the Sons and Daughters of Temperance. The Di/striet iiincer's report showed that three tenlts, Cardiff, Levin, and a female. *tent ait Gisborne, had been established since the last district" meeting. Twenty-nine male, and four 'female tents were attached to the district, and the total membership iVAS 1549, of whom -1462 were financial and 87 honorary members, t'liia being an increase sines last iiK-eting of 172 financia* and 30 honorary membcre. A sum of £380 had been paid out. of'the funeral fund, and £12 2s out wf the benevolent fund. The total amount standing to the credit of the district funds was upwards of £8250. The return from the tents showed a total of £22,276 to the credit.of t'he> sick funds, and £517 to the. contingent funds. These amour.vs, added to the district funds, gave a grand total of upwards of £31,050. The increase in the district funds amounted » £326, and "in the tent funds to £1348. £1391, 'being at the rate of 9s per member, bad been {>a;d on account of sickness, whiieh' was a decrease of 9s 9d per member since the last report. * The report of the District Superintendent of the Juvenile Brandies showed that new branches hud been established at Duncdin. Christchurch, and Napier. The total membership of the juvenile department was 310. The sum of £15 was voted for prizes to be awarded for juvenile work done during the next two years. Bro. J. Rash. of Wellington, intimated that he would present a gold medal to the juvenile obtaining the greatest number of new members j during the next two years. A grant of £2 was made for each new juvenile tent formed during the same period. Bros. Bennett, Blackball, and Kissell were appointed a finance committee. In the evening, from seven to eight o'clock, the Tainera Juvenile Tent held a meeting, at which refreshments were hand•ed round. A special meeting of the Pride of Christchurch Tent was held afterwards, and was largely attended. A deputation was received from the Good Templars conveying fraternal gn-ttings. Two candidates were initiated, and two were pro- I posed. 'The District Council will continue its session at the Oddfellows' Hall from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. to-day, and tnere will be a, moonlight excursion to Stunner in the evening.
