Mr Davke reported on the damage to the altwce gate elt the Kawai water-raoe, which he Btoted had been done by explosive. The report confirmed Mr Daviese impression that the damage had been done by dynamite. Subsequently two men in the employ of the County Council admitted that the had been dtone by them by the explosion of dynamite in a pool near the gate, for. the purpose of oa&chdng trout,, and the explosion damaged the gate.
It was decided that the men repair the gate, and that the Council then consider the question of continuing the men in its employment. .
The secretary laid on the table a return showing that the sum of £721 7e 10d bad been expended on the destruction of the email birds by the different Road Boards. The sum of £626 3s Id bad been expended for heads, etc:, £95 4e »9d for poisoned grain, making a total of £721 7s lOd. The rates leviable amounted to £919 4e 6d, and the Council had received in cash £369 Us 6d. The full returns of some of the. Road Boards had not yet been sent in. There was a balance of £186 3a 6d to credit.. It was resolved that the Boards' which-had not furnished the full returns should be written to and asked to send them in by, next meeting. v Mr Dunlop mored: "That the various Boards be .paid the loans of £1 for £1 in connection with the collection of eggs and heads up to the £15, as provided by the resolution of the Board." - After some diecuesion, it was resolved that notice dbe given of the rescinding of the resolution. . A letter was read from Mr Qaealey, with reference to the letting out of Lake Ellesmere, stating that it was 2ft 6in higher now than on the former occasion when the Lake was let out. A petition was also received from numerous residents, aaking the Council to let out the Lake. It was resolved that, as to the time for calling for tenders for letting out the Lake to be sent in, the matter pt Jeft in the hands of Messrs Wolfe, Mcilillan, and Quealey. Accounts to the amount of £275 19s 9d were passed for payment.
