MORXINGTON CABLE CAR PLANT DESTROYED. •• (PBIB3 ASSOCIATION TELSORAH.) DUNEDIN, February 9. Jμ Mornington cable tram uheds, and «he engines and plant, were wholly deatroyed by fire this morning about three pi'clock. It ie supposed that the fire etarted vi the ofttee. It burnt the adjoining three bouses and store facing the Town Belt, ond occupied by Mr Lowden, tram engineer, Mr 0. W. Qrigg, Police Constable Power, and Mm Weir. Practically Eothina woe saved. The Mornington Council was about to take over the Trani Company. The tramway plant andi buildings were totally destroyed, and ore roogbly valued ***w>ooo. bring insured in the Royal for £4380, of which £2660 is reinsured as folkrws: -National £760, Norwich- Union, Victoria, Sooth British, and Snuritod £380 each. The Royal Insurance nod a rick of £1355 on the other bud Wing destroyed. The United bad a line of £400 on Weir's store, whioh w*s paitially de■troyed, and the Liverpool. The Monungton Borough Council bad arjwged to purchase the trame, and were to nave token them over in a few weeks. Only one deed remained to be signed prior to the property being formally handed over.
