ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL,
James Kerr, aiiaa Baiter, and Arthur Torr, -were committed for trial by Mr R. Beetihftm, . €. : M., on Saturday, upon a charge of having assaulted end robbed a middle-aged man named Francis Wall the previous evening, in a vacant section off Manchester street. Francis Wall, the prosecutor,stated that he came into Christcburoh on Tuesday last with £lo in hie ipoeseseion, but he only had 13s or 14s on Friday afternoon. Bfo had drinks with the two accused in the Railway Hotel, and proceeded akme to a. vacant section some 200 yards from the hotel. The two followed him into the section, where he was lying down. Km attacked hie throat and nearly choked him, while the other man took the silvej? from hie pocket. Constable McQiochy gave evidence that he was coming along Manchester street at half-past seven the previous evening, when he heard a choking sound coming from a vacant section et the corner of Manchester and Dundas streets. He saw the prosecutor under a shrub fence, held down by the two accused. Kerr had him by the throat. When tne accused saw him.they fell over and shut their eyes, and remained quit* still as if asleep: The prosecutor said, "Thank God, constable, that you have oome, for they would have choked me, M and added that the men had robbed him of 14s. He searched' the accused at the Police Station, and found a £1 note and- 21* in silver on Torr, but nothing on Kerr. Bail wae allowed, each accused in £200, and two sureties in £100 each.
