"THE MOST PAINTED SPOTS."

What scenes have been most frequently depicted on canvas by landscape painters? Mr Dolman has consulted a.number of artists on the subject, and he tells in "Cassell's Magazine" that their replies lead to the conclusion that the following places have obtained most favour at the hands of themselves and their predecessors:—* Bettws-y-Coed, North Wales. Capel Curig. near Bettws-y-Coed. Haddon Hall, Derbyshire. The Mouth of the* Dart, Devonshire. Lvnmouth, Devonshire. Clovellv, Devonshire. The Thames, at Pongbourne, Streatley, and Sonning. Loch Lomond, Scotland. Bettws-y-Coed comes easily first. Three members of the Royal Academy—Messrs MacWhirter, B. W. Leader, and Peter Graham —testify in this sense, although th. fame of neither of them is associated with North Wale*. And in Mr Leader's opinion Bettws-y-Coed well deserves this pre-eminence. "In all my travels," he declared, " I have never found a more beautiful spot for a landscape painter than Bettws-y-Coed."
