THE COUNCILLOR AND THE TYPEWRITER.
A story is being told at the expense ol an East Anglian Jown Councillor which (says a London paper) is almost as good as that classical joke about the Bradford Councillor and the gondola. The Councillor is a member of the Finance Committee, and one of the hills which came up fur payment was for ribbons for the typewriter. "She might be a very nice girl," he objected, "but why should she be provided with finery at the expense of the rates?"
