ORDINARY MEETING.

Tbe, ordinary meeting was then held. The report of the Engineer with regard to various matters was read, and adopted. The Harbour Master reported regarding the men of the Harbour Board attending to steamers on arrival and departure. The report was referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee. Accounts were passed for payment as under: —No- 1 account,, £5528 13s 4d; No. 2 account, £538 7s Id. The tender of the Blackball Company for supply of coal for the year was aocepted, and the tender for the stores for the year was referred to the Chairman, Messrs Graham, and Waymouth. Applications for increase of pay from some members of the staff were referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee. . A letter was read from Messre ChryetaH and Co. asking for permission to erect tanks for storing kerosene in bi£k in Lvttelton. The matter wae referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee, and it was decided to ask the Engineer to report. A letter was read from the Agricultural Department declining to pay accounts for the cool storage of poultry. The letter was received. The Marine Department wrote with reference to the chairmen of county councils having a deliberative as well as a casting vote in the case of Harbour Board elections, stating that this had been Gazetted. Mr Weetlake was allowed to re-erect his shed on a site selected by the Engineer on certain terms. The Chairman said that the trains were now runnftg on to No. 2 jetty, and the two lamps now existing threw a shadow on to the side where the passengers disembarked from the train to get into their steamer. To erect two.additional lamps would cost £60. Mr Gibbs moved—"That the extra tamps be erected." Mr Buddo seconded the motion, which was agreed to. ilr Grubb brought under the notice of tire Board the necessity for having the light in the Dock broupbt down so that the lower portion of vessels could be, inspectedThe Chairman said he would bring the ma'rer under the notice of the Engineer. The use of the Board's office in Lyttelton was granted to a conference of dairy delegates on the 27th inst. The next meeting waa fixed for February 24th a*. 2 P.m.
