In the afternoon P. R- Johnson gave a very fine exhibition of vigorous Datlircg. and is apparently in the best of form, his off driving beiTjig paiiticularly good. F. L. Fane, one of the defensive batsmen, and olso J. Stanning. showed their strength againvt. straight bowlimg, the latter especially havircg a hard drive past cover of whdek he seems very fond. T. L. Taylor and C. T. Bumuip, probably two of the beat all-round batsmen, went in for some hiard luitting. The two bowlers, G. J. Thompson unci L. Hargreave, were on the ground, but did not, practise. AH the team have expressed themselves as very pleased with tho wicket prepared, and also with the outfield.
The Canterbury Cricket Association has decided not to allow the spectators inside the fence for ilhe anatdh to-day, and it is probable that ■■ c boundaries will be roped off.
