A sign of Mr Chamberlain's growing popularity and of the improved feeling an>ongst the burghers, is provided in the fa«t that three sections of the Boers—the " Hands Uppers " (a name by which the burghere who surrendered are known amongst the Boera), the National Scouts, and those who continued lighting to the end—joined in the presentation of an address at Bloemfontein. There is a feeling even amongwt the bitterest section of the Boers that Mr Cliamberlain is determined to right all injustices.

.An address presented to Mr Chamberlain by the Caledonian, Cambrian and Australian Associations referred to the harsh administration of martial law.
