RAM FAIR.
The experiment of holding a second ram fair under the auspices of the Ctoterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association cannot be considered a success. The fair was held at the request of breeder*, irho desired to take advantage of {•he demand from the North Wand, but it was evidently too late for this purpose, the wants of the Northern buyers baring been satisfied privately during the iatt few weeks. There was a good attendance «t the fair yesterday at the Show Qrouwfe, at Addington, but there were only two represent&Qves of the North Island present. There was very little demand for English Leicester*, practically none on the part of the smaller Canterbury sheep-fanners, the principal buyers being station owners who are in a position to hold the rams until they require them later on. Those sold realised 2ge to 4gs. The few Soutndowns offered failed to change hands at, auction, but twenty were sold privately at 6gs. A few lota of Shropehiree made ljge to 3Jgs. There was practically no demand for other breeds. A line of unregistered English Leicester flock rama was knocked down at 10s, and a line of unregistered Lincoias at lie 6d, which were not mutton prices. There was no demand for flock ewee, and only a few etud rams found buyers. The sale was, therefore, a most unsatisfactory one to all concerned. In addition to the lot* reported,' there were a numbar of lots placed privately at prices that wej» not disclosed. Messrs Field and Roydn report having purchased for North leland clients 40 one-shear English Leicester rams from Mr T. Phillips, 20 two-eliear English Leicesters, and 20 Southdown from Mr J. C. N.
