A list of unclaimed moneys in tbs» Union Bank of Australia amounts to £8697 7s lid. One o£ the amounts credited to the first solicitor in Lytttiton has been to his current account pince July 19th, 1859, and lie has been dead for many years. Another amount, belonging to "the Wellington Agricultural Association, has b?eu idle since November 2nd, 1844. and the Wellington Fanners' CV.ub also has a ba'.anie not called for since August 25th, 1858. A Speaker of the House of Representatives has not applied for £23 14s Id since May 11th, 1876. having joined the great majority. A Sydney importer has overlooked £156 13s sd, since November 3rd, 1854, when trade with New Zealand wae in it* infancy. Four officers of the 18th Royai Irish Regiment, which fought in the Maori wars, have left behind £14 7s 6d. £10 12s lid. £5, and £4 16a sd, respectively, while the Senior Naval Officer of the New Zealand Station of 1866 left £30 19» 6d. An Auckland solicitor, who was at one time Registrar of the Christchuxch Supreme Court, has forgotten £205 4s 7d for forty years. A Scottish national monument «ocount has been in credit £10 17»- from July 30th, 1862, The Avon Steam Company, from June, 1862, had enough in hani to purchase a dinghey. The owner of the once British Hotel in Christchurch i* credited with funds since 1864. Thomas Cannon, supposed to be dead, hm £215, due since 1865. The Komi Pass Race Club, from January, 1874, have £13 15s to the good. The item, "Lyttelton Museum." £11 Is 6d, April 23rd, i860," prompte th* question, where is that museum now? The most remarkable item, however, is "cash found in strong room of-old bank" (place not stated), owner unknown, £20, April 7th, 1870. "' Here is an opportunity for a .claimant, .who 'would, however,. have to state whether the nvdney was in, jaot«e, or gold, or sifrrer, and supply other information, before < restitution could be made. It seems .that patriotism was in existence in New Zealand as far back as October 30th, 1855, when the Trustees of the Nelson Patriotic Fund'left £6 6e 6d as a forgotten asset. An item of £100, ■ put in a* on fixed deposite ab Hokitiks, at 4 per cent, in July, 1865, receives credit for £2 every six months. The total interest if the rat* had kept up to 4 per cent for 37 years would have been more than, the principal, viz., £148. The balances at currant account include tihe names of many whom the old residents may,: perhaps, reenember, as h*v» ing mysterioinuy disappeared, either in tb« .. hush or in the ranges. One of these is Mr Dicken, farmer, who wae searched for during many weeks in the wilds of the Akaro* district, and whose remains were neves found. .
