THE ALLEGATIONS CONTRADICTED
(Received February 3rd, 11.33 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 3.
Mr Allardyoe, on being interviewed, gave an unqualified- draial to Mr Berkeley's cabled allegations with reference to Fiji, and discounts 'their importance by oounteritijunctions on the score of political motive. In .the absence of anything definite to answer, Mr Allardyoe contented himself wita a general contradiction. He declared that there wae no official tyranny in t)he Islands, speakfng broadly; he admitted there migfht bo> individual cases of injustice, just ac there are in all countries, but they were ail ways remedied when brought to light. He further mid that there had no complaints re the incidence of taxation, and no ground for complaint excepting in Mr Berkeley's imagination. There ihad been no public agitation, and no unwillingness to pay the taxes imposed.
