Sir G*o. Gabriel Stokes, Master of Pembroke College, and of the Royal Society, was born at Skreen, County Sligo, is 1819, and wax educated at Dublin. The magnificent Boyol Society Catalogue of Scientific Pupens—one oi tue greatest boons ever conferred on men of science—shows that up to 1864 Sir U. Stokes bad published the result* of some ae\*nty distinct inyestigatione—on an averagts between tbre« and four per annum. In fill Church questions Sir G«o. Stokas took ». keen interest. He addressed nieetings at the Church Congress, aud read a very inteiieating paper at the Cardifi Ccegreea in 1889.
