CYCLING.
A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Cycling Club was held in the Club House, Gloucester street, on Monday, Mr E. N. Lawson in the chair. A letter was received from Sydney re the proposed visit of Major Taylor to New Zealand. It stated that the champion had been offered the sum of £1600 to fact) the coming summer iv Japan, but that he irould not decide if lie would accept it until he received his Paris and Berlin with opening datee. In the event of his going to Japan he would not be able to visit New Zealand, but on the other hand if he goes to the : Continent it was almost certain he would come here. The secretary reported that the manager of Bobl and DickeiitmaJin, the German paoe folio were, fxaA called on him re the visit of the two champions to New Zealand, and negotiations were ojiene<l up for tlieir control. Leave of absence wos granted to Mr F. K. Asquit.h, the secretory,of the club, during his absence in England, and it was decided to make him a preamtation before leaving. Several new membere were elected.
