BOXING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Boxing Association was held at the Hereford Hotel last evening. Present —Messrs J. F. Grierson (chairman), C. 1. jjichman, D. Haniber, J. It. Evans, F. I. Cowiiebaw, A. X, Kiik, and W. G. Atack (hoewrary secretary). Apologies for abfieaee were received from Messrs P. Seiig, ■J , . W. Johnston and F. E. Hyman, 'A motion paj&sed at the previous meeting—"That a championship tournament should be held in thy autumn, the entries to be confined to members of Volunteer eofjie in the North Canterbury district," 'was tbe subject of a report by Mr Atauk. Hβ outlined the steps which had , been taken towards bringing about the proposed military tourawnent Further action wae leit iota hands. Hr J. C.^< T . Greig wrote, stating that he irottld have much pleasure in presenting a challenge, tup for the middle-weight cljampioiiship. The offer was aicceptett with thank*. $fy O. Huniphievfi wrote, accepting tin position of vice-president, to the Aslodation. ■ Accounts amounting to £2 18s were passed for payment. Jfr Atack reported that correspondence had passed between iiim.*e]f mid prominent boxing enthusiasts in \Vellingtou, Auuklaad, Wanganui and Duncdin, in regard to the advienolenees of establishing centres to control the sport in those towns, It was decided to commission Atauk to visit Wellington and Wanganui at his convenience and endeavour to establish centres there.
The question of the dates of tlie next
championship meet ings were informally di*cuMed. and April or May was sugsgeeted for the centre championship meeting, and July or August for the New Zealand championship meeting, and the idea of sending winners of championships to meet the winners of the New South Wales championibdpe wae approved.
