Rumours are in the air to the effect tliat the resignation is due to Ministerial interference) with the working of ihre Department, but. I kern from Mr Tunbridgc himself that it is principally on t-lie ground of ill-health that he has decided to relinquish woik. The men in the lorcc are now on the whole a better class than they were goms yrars ago, and the system of examij»<tinn which he, introduced was much preferable to the old regime in which political inflitE-nce was brought to bear to a large extent, boih in the appointment and tha proirxrt-ton of the men.
