The Evangelical Council has resolved to sek the Governor-General *to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the grave accusations and charges made by Cardinal Monui on public occasions against the character of his Majesty's subjects in the sphere beyond ordinary British jurisdiction, to wit, Sam-oii, The grounds for the request made are that the honour and credit of jthe Empire demand that the charges be searchingly and fearlesply investigated, with a view to bringing the authors of the crimes to justice, if it is proved tihat the crimes have been perpetrated, or, if ft is found that they aiv false, the of British officers and Protestant missionaries from the stigma the Cardinal sought to affix to them, and the Britk-Ji name. It is pointed out that as the Cardinal refuses to supply the alleged proof which would en-able the aggrieved parties to put the law in motion in ibc ordinary way, there is no other way of making an inquiry than a f=peck<Uy-appointed Royal Commission.
