THE MINISTER OF LANDS RESIGNS.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. (Received January 28th, 10.21 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 28. In the Assembly Mr (J. M. Prendergast, member for North Melbourne, moved the adjournment and' challenged the action of the Hon. M. McKenzie, Minister of Lands, in subletting for £1000 certain lands for which a grazing license of £25 had been paid yearly. He contended that this conduct was such that the Hon. M. McKenzie. waa not fitted to hold office, and demanded an enquiry. The Hon. M. McKenzie admitted that he had sold the grass on the laud, but he ihad £3000 in improvements, and considered he had a right to recoup the losses. He desired a full enquiry, and placed his resignation in the hands of the Premier. Subsequently the Premien gave notice of his intention to move to-day the appointment of a Committee of Inquiry into charges against the Hon. M- McKenzie. (Received Jajnuary 29th, 12.23 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January isß. Although* the Premier has not accepted Mr McKe-nssie's resignation, the latter does not perform his official duties.
