AN INTERESTING RETURN.
(FBESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, Jamiary 26. Tie Regjetrar-trenerare department has compiled a return showing the state of the voting in tine four city electorates at the . general election. At. Auckland and Wellington the number of males who voted exceeded tho females, while at Dunedin and Cbristoburch. the women voters outnumbered tne-tnen. The electors in these distrkfta have the right of voting for three members, «nd as -the number of votes excrcisable by the persane who voted was more than 25.000 in excess of the number recorded, it is evident that many electors Toted for only one or two candidates. There. were at the four cities 84,096 persons an the rolls, of whom 42,166 weremen and 41,930 women. Of this total 65,325 aeeorded their votes, 33,739 being men and 31,337 women. The votes exerciaable by these electors were 195,978, the number actually recorded being 167,107. The table shows that nearly all the adult persona of both sexes ore registered as Sector*. The percentage of persona on the r&tts who Voted was upwards of 75. The lushest (proportion who voted was nt ChrLstetourch, but in that city a smaller number of adult population enrolled themwives as electors than was the case 'n the other tihree centres. At Auckland the adult population was in November estimated at 20,830, and of theeo 19,976 were ' enrolled. Of these 15,116 voted, or 75.67 per cent. At Wellington 21,218 out >f an estimated adult population of 21,260 were on the rolls. Of these 15,981, or 75.32 per cent., recorded their votes. At Chiastchurch 19,769 electors enrolled out of *"i estimated adult population of 22,278. Of nbeee 16,825, or 85.12, voted. At Duaedia there were 23.103 electors on the Wi, and 17,404 recorded their votes, or ■ 75,23 per cent. Tiie estimated adult population of Dunedin in November was 22,070. the number enrolled was in excess of this, there is an error. Either the estimate is too low, or the rolls con*«ine<| the names of many persons who ' «»4 left the district.
