Stone, -Mr iv L. Macassey, and Mr D. Wrig'nt went South by the express yesterday. A North Inland contemporary states that Captain White, who was killed at the head of a party of Tonnachy's Regiment, while utorming a, tower in Somaliland recently, is a brother of Mr Cyril White, of Gisborne. Our WeHingtxm correspondent telegraphs that among the arrivals by fhe Moeraki from Sydney yesterday were Mr and Mrs Frank Bad«n-*row*>lL who intend touring New Zealand. Mr Baden-Powell is a brother cf the famous fighting "B.'-P." • Mrs A. T. dark, Misses Clark and Anderson, of Kaiapoi, were passengers to Hanmer yesterday. The St. Albaaa School Cammittee last night appointed Miss A. Partridge assistant mistress at vie St. Aibams School. A river. picnic was the opportunity chosen by his Brisbane friends at which to say good-bye k> Mr Cyrus J. B. Williams, the newly-a-ppointed engineer to the Lyttelton Harbour Board, xnx the oocaeion of his leaving Queensland. "Mr T. W. Ccmnah, Under-Secjetary to the Queensland Treasury," states the Brisbane " Courier," 4, as one who had the opportunity of knowing, spoke in the highest terms of the abilities Mr Williams had shown in his position in the Hydraulic Department, and ivciced the regjret of hifs colleagues and friends at his leaving the .service. He felt sure, however, that Mr Williams carried with him the esteem and respect of the whole of his fellow-officers, and wherever he went he would be a credit to the Queensland service. He asked him to accept the gift of a travelling portmanteau «c a elight mark of the (regard in which he was held by his fellow-officers and friend*, and wished Mr and Mrs Williams every prosperity and happiness during their tesidence in New Zealand."
