NEW ZEALAND'S SCENIC BEAUTIES.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HOKITIKA, January 27. Mr Pringle, the Government Photographer, reached Hokitika from South Westland yesterday, having travelled from the Hermitage, Mount Cook, across the mountains and down the Copland river to the West Coast. He speaks in glowing terms of the scenic beauties of South Weetland, and describes the valleys of the Copland and Karangaroa as very fine, the bush, mountains, river, and lake scenery being particularly striking, and unequalled in the colony. The Copeland Springs, he said, would be superior to those at Hanmer. He greatly admired the Franz Josef Glacier, which will prove of special value to the colony, and is easily accessible by road. He believes that South Westland can be made an important part of the new tourist route, enabling travellers to pass from the North down the West Coast and across 'Haast Pass to the Cold Lakes of Otago. Mr Pringle goes North to-day, but returns in about a month's time, to do the South district thoroughly for the Tourist Department. He is of the opinion that many side trips can be arranged, enabling travellers to enjoy all the varieties oi scenery, in what* may be termed the "Wonderland of West]and."
