SAD FATALITY AT LEESTON.
.4. A YOUNG MAX ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Yesterday news* was leeeived at Lecston that Mr Peter Boag. son of Mr John Boa,;, of Brookside, ;nul brother to Ca.pt am Bixig, of tha El.esmere Mounted Rifles, was shot in the stomach whilst the corps was practising at the tiile range. Mr BiNig died from his injuries at three o'clock, only a few hours after tht. distiessing accident occurred.

Ireland was arrested ;is a matter of formality, by Constable O'Conuell, .stationed at Leeston, on a eiiarg.' of "killing and slayuig." He explained that as th-j result of the suggestion to lire a volley, he placed a cartridge in the breech of his ritie, and while lie was cloning the breech the. weapon exploded. The late Mr Boag was 21 yenrs of age, and a fanner by occupation. He was a successful footballer and athlete, and was well known and very popular.
Major Creswell and CaptaLnS Fislier and Merton leave the Battalion camp to-day to hold a military inquiry into t\w causes which led up to the fatal accident.
