LICENSING REFORM.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—A case was reported in your paper a few days since of & man, Matthew Bussen, having been found by fell* police helplessly drank at half-past eleven o'tiock on Sunday night, and remanded for medical treatment. My object in writing this letter i& to enquire if the police intend to take any steps against the publican for supplying this man on Sunday, or where he obtained the liquor. It is cases like this that make the people disgusted with the liquor traffic. There have been several oases reported of late of breaches of the Licensing Act, and if matters go on so fo* the next three years the liquor party will only have themselves to blame if no license is carried. They surely have had sufficient warning.—Yours, etc., MODERATION. Christchurch, January 15th, 1903.
