the colony at th.c present time, and was formerly a member of the Brighton Club, Melbourne. He is a. free left-handed batsman, and some-uries causes trouble.

S. T. Callaway was seine time ago looked upon a<i one of the most promising allround max in New South Wales. &? was a member of Mr Coleman Davis's Sydney team which visited this colony during the season 1889-90. when ho met with much success as a bowler. Subsequently, in addition to representing his State, he played in test matches against Stoddart's first Jinglish team, when he and Albert Trott, by their fixe, all-round play were practicality the means of Australia's easy win in Adelaide. He again visited New Zealand as a member, of the New South Wales teiam in 1895-6, when he secured the best bowling average, taking 40 wickets at a «)3t of 9.17 runs each. Hβ has resided here for the past few seasons.

F. S. Fiankish was a member of the New Zealand team which visited Australia, ■and has represented Canterbury for a number of years. H-e is one of the best fast left-hand buwl«s in the eolonv, and a fair bat.

C. W. Garrard is a steady defensive batsman, and a good field. He first represented the province in 1887, when he played against Otago. He invariably scores -heavily in club games.

~3. D. Lawrence was one of the heroes in the first wicket record score against Auckland in 1894, when he contributed 367 and L. A. Cuff 176, the pair making 306 before they were separated. He has frequently done yeoman service for the province, and represented! New Zealand against. New South Wake. Ho is generally regarded es a punishing batsman and fast change bowler. S. Orchard is a fine free left-handed batsman, and a splendid field in any position. He has done well in representative matches this season.

W. C. i'earce is a stubborn batsman with good hitting powers. He is a fast righthanded bowler tmd a safe field. He represented New Zealand against Queensland and New South Wales. '

'D. Reese has played for the Melbourne Cricket Ctub in Senior Pennant matches for .tjh.9 last two seasons, but learnt most of his cricket in Canterbury. He ia •>•.' gcod left-nanded batsman and break bowler, and a splendid field. He was a member of the New Zealand team t-hat visited Australia.

T. W. Reefe is a stylish bat, but rarely dn.s hi nisei f justice in / representative matches., although of late he has done brtcr. He i- s a..splendid, field anywhere, and worth ihis place in the team "on this account ai'.oJie.

i A. S«:ms is looked upon as t!ie best batsman in the colony. He scores well all round the wicket, has a fins defence, ana is a tricky slow bowler. He. also visited Australia with the New Zealand team. R. Strange is the colt cf the team. He ,is a punishing batsman, who scores very quioblv when set, but hits rashly at fch-> start of his innings.
