Anniversary Day brought with it muchneeded rain, frt(iuent heavy showers greatly interfering with the holiday-making and sports.
Theie was a large attendance at the cricket match, but the ipectators had to be content with an hour's play, durin? which Trumper and Duff raised the New South Wales score to 265. and remained nut out when rain stopped play, with the individual ncores level at 130.
The Ann iver. liny regatta was highly sue ee.'sful. In the All-Comers" Single Scullri. .). Liiyi'ock (scratch) beat 0. Towns (->■ beliind ttcratch), by half a. length, liie Service Cutter's race was won by the American transport ship Glacier's crew (trn seconds start), H.M.S. Royal Arthur (scratch) second, Naval Brigade third. This was a gieat race. The Royal Arthur's mm btut the Yankees by a couple of lenj;tlis. but the latter were awarded the race on time allowance.
(Received January 27th, 1.15 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 26. The weather was delightful for the holiday. The , principal event wa.s the Australian Natives' Association fete. The qualifying heats for the Wheel Race and Australian Cup provided good lacing.
