GREATER CHRISTCHURCH.

It is a little significant that at the meeting held at the Sehvyn street schoolroom, Sydenham, last night, to consider the Greater Christchurch question, the only speakers against amalgamation were members of the Sydenham Borough Council. We can quit* undei stand members of that body being opposed to the "happy despatch," as applied to themselves, but whether they are likely to avert the process o£ extinction by openly agitating against the movement for amalgamation remains to be se&n. It would have been in better taste, we think, H the Council had confined themselves to obtaining the fullest information on both sidee of the question, placing it as impartially as possible before the ratepayers, and leaving the latter to judge. The tone of the meeting' last night was almost unanimous in favour of Sydenham joining the city and the 6th?r boroughs, and if, as we believe, it is tolerably representative of the feelingi which prevails in other parts of Sydenham, there is little doubt that the poll on February 4th will show a very large majority in favour of amalgamation.
