DARFIELD.

The monthly sale was held at Darfield on Friday, wlwn the yarding consisted of only 3100 sheep and lambs, the major portion «1 which were fats. Lambs numbered 800, some few pens being good, well-dratted sorts,, with one or two lots extra prime. The majority, however, showed a want ot finish. Crossbred ewe« and ewees and lambs formed the bulk of tlie entry of stores. The attendance was fully up to the average, but bidding, except for glood lines, either fat or etoree, was lacking in spirit, acd a number «£ lota were pajssed at auction. The following are the prices: — Freezing wethers 17s 3d to 18e 6d, mixed eexes 16s 6d to 17s, maiden ewes 16s lid, fat lambs 14s 9d to 15e, extra, good 16e 4d, unfinished lines 13s to 16s 6d, fat crossbred ewes 13s 6d to 15e, and up to 17s for good young sorts, fat merino ewes 8s lid to 9a 4d, rape lambs 10s 6d to 11s 6d, two-tooth crossbred ewes 13s lOd, four-tooth ditto 16s 2d, mixed ages 14s 6d, merino «wee and lambs 6s 2d (all counted). No crossbreds were sold. The principal sales were tor— MessrsGillander Bros., 65 freezing wethers 18s 6d; Mr J. Saxton, 80 at 18s; Mr P. Morrison, 25 at 17s sd; Mr J. J. Hanmant, 92 {at lambs (very prime) 16s 4d; Mr J. Hanson, 59 fat lambs 15s; Mr \V. E. Candy, 71 at 14s lid; Messrs Gillander Bros., 120 at 14a 9d; Mr G. Watson, 90 at Wβ.

Meesrs Pyne and Co. iheldi a successful clearing sala on account of Messrs Bealey Bros, of their Rakaia lilead stock at Haldon on Thursday. There was a good attendance of buyers. The lambs by Southdown rams out of Eomney ewes, and the two-tooth Romney ew«e and wethers, were particularly good lines. Prices are as loi--10wh:—1227 two-tooth ewes 16s 10d to lie, 350 fat ewes 15a 7d, 266 two-tooth crossbred wethers 17s 6d, 760 ewes 9s 6d, 1600 lambs (fat) 15s 6d, 380 lambs 14s 4d, 400 fa* ewes 15s, 790 crossbred ewes 8s 5d to 9.5. 31 Southdown ewes and wethers 15s lid, 41 merino rums 6s 6d. The horses and implements also sold at good prices. Massrs Matson and 00. held a successful clearing sale for Messrs Gillon Bros, at Greenpark on Friday, when they sold about: 20 dairy cows at prices ranging from £7 to £13, averaging about £8 15s; also a line of two-year-old heifers at £5 2s per head, and a line of yearlings at £2 Is. A record sale of pigs was made, when a sow with a litter of nine realised £8 10e, an ■ porkers and baconers sold well up to current market rates.

The National Mortgage and Agency Company have sold a further block of the Aylesbury estate, comprising 490 acres, to Messrs A. E. Davis and Son, of Haikett, at a satisfactory price. Our Ashburton correspondent reports that a line of sheep, 1050 crossbred wethers, prime freezers, changed hands on Friday at 19s, delivery on farm.
