A HISTORY OF THE CASE.
The case of Colonel Lynch has roused a great deal of interest. The charge of treason .preferred against him. was dependent en the fact that he bore arms against the British forces in the Boer war. While still absent from Ireland Jie was elected as member of the House of Commons for Galway, but did not venture back to England until June of last year Uptn his return he was arrested. Shortly before he decided to return to England lie wrote a letter to tho Speaker, in, which ha stated that he had thought it meet to refrain from any attempt to enter the House while a matter which liad excited suoh deep feelings was still undecided, and "in <a more modern spirit than that of Themistoeles" lie appealed to members not to strike him, but to hear him. On his arrest he was brought up at Bow street, and evidence was preferred against him on the charge of treason.
