NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.
A Committee meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council was held last night. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens was in the choir.
Mr W. D. Meares said that owing to the abandonment of come of the smaller matches, the English team might be expected to arrive in Christchurch on the Monday night, instead of on the Wednesday morning. The financial aspect on the Australian side was good, and it only required fine weather to ensure success here. The Council was in a good position. 'ihe team would come overland by coach from Blenheim, and the New Zealand expenses, thanks to private enterprise, had hitherto been very light. He had to report that the Bolclutha match had been abandoned, and a South Island match substituted therefor.
After some discussion it wag decided that Mr Fowke be requested to act as selector for the South Island team against Lord Hawke's team in Dunedin. It was further decided that Mr Fowke should be asked to witness the Otago match.
