THE TWO LOANS. NOMINATIONS TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. United Prees Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 22nd, 4.54 p.m.) LONDON, January 21. The thirty-five millione loan was a compromise between the. forty millions proposed by the Rand financiers and Mr Chamberlain's suggestion of thirty millions. It leaves twelve millions for new public works. With reference to the war loon, a meeting of lepresentative- great mining houses, excepting J. B. Robinson and Co.. suggested thirty milLions as the contribution. A conference of traders, merchants, aoid miners on the Rand afterwards ratified this by 74 votes to 4. (Received January 23rd, 12.54 a.m.) CAPETOWN, January 22. Mr Chemfceilain announced that \hs thirty million war 1-aan was intended to relieve Great Britain's debt. The immediate -elief to revenue would be slight, if any. Louis Botiha* C. Van Hulstyn, Sir G. Farrar, "and Bir Percy FitzPatrick will probably be nominated to the Tranevaal Legislative Council, which meets in May. The sittings will be open io the public.
