NEW BRIGHTON GALA.

Though the easterly wind was somewhat boisterous, the sun was hot, and there was! a Urge attendance ftt the New Brighton Gala yesterday. Flags were flying everywhere, a»d there were four strange of them across the main road. The beach was thronged with happy children of all ages, and the handsome and useful Coronation fountain and tank was in great requierUon. The Christchuroh Garrison Band piayed from bh« pier, and the programme was well got out, and the events thoroughly well supervised- , The Ladies' Fire Brigade team repeated tbe excellent performance Which took place at Lancaster Park o» Saturday. One of the membeis of the team, unfortunately, sprained her instep -while running on the rielding sand. There were no fewer than 57 entries in the baby show classes. \n interesting item was the compstrtiwn n- children and young girls in the buiMmg ■f sand castles, for which there were forty entries. Many of the oasfcles showed good iasign, and real and effective work. There were many side shows, and the programme was as varied as possible. _ All the officials worked hard, and Mr (*. Capper, hon. secretary, and Miss Capper, •te assistant secretary, were indefat/igaMe sa their efforts to make the gala a success.
