THE TRAMWAYS BOARD.

TO THS EDrrOB. OF THE PBESS. Sir,—ln answer to the letter in ?^ T ' day's "Press" signed by a "Linwood Elector," I would jusi like to say: Yes. the Mr John Jamieson, a candidate for the Tramway Board, is the .ame Mr John Jamieson. the up-to-date councillor, who is always alive when anything comes along that he thinks will benefit the electors. He, with a few other prxaninent men in this city, recognised -hat Mr Hanson's offer was one that sihotild not iiave been lefusod, and that fact is very widely acknowledged. I know that the British Electric Company would not think of putting the sam* offer before the Board, and for that reason I am now a straight out-and-out supporter for municipal ownership for the people. He is also fue son of the lato Mr William Jamieson, builder, of Auckland, who, with the late Messrs Griffen and Gilbert, were the founders of -he eight hours a day for the workers, established over forty wars ago. I have been a very hard worker for Linwood. and have cor.siVtent.ly supported every movement lor its good since the days of its Town Beard! period, and up to the present. —I am, etc., JOHN JAMIESON. Cr- Payling. as a. candidate for the Tramwav'Board, writes protesting against the gentlemen who have signed a circular in favour of certain candidates, describing themselves as a •'Cirizens* Committee." No such committee, be says, has ever been appointed by the citizens of Christchurch. We have received a number of letters both for and against particular candidabes for tho Tramway Boar_, but acting on our usual principle have decided not to publish electioneering letters on the date of the election, when there is no opportunity of reply. The only exception we make to this rule is to afford the opportunity of reply or explanation to candidates -who have been attacked in our columns.
