ANTICIPATIONS.
(SrZCTAL TO "the PRESS. ) WELLINGTON. January 21. With so many visitors in town, and indications of perfect weather, the attendance at th_ Hurt ito-morrow, on the occasion of the opening of tho Wellington Summer Meeting, promises to constitute a record. No stable now has more than one representative in the Cup, which should ma_e tho race an interesting one. Ten horses are likely to _ti_rt, and as the course will be fast it is expeoied that the winner will break 2min 37bcc. The probable starters are:—Advance, lOst 4lb (C. Jenkins); Battleaxe, Bst 121b (J. Gallagher); Siege Gun, b'st 91b (L. H. Hewitt); Canteen, Sst 8!b (L. King); Hinetaura, 7st 121b (S. Li-dsay); Onnie Chiel, 7st 81b (J. McCiusky); Motor, Cat 131b (G. Price); Bund-a, 6st lHib (L. Thomson); General Symons, 6st 10lb (J. Riclrerby); and Benefactor, 6st 91b (H. Carmont). Advance -seems to be none the -worse for his long spell, and though burdened with lOst 41b it should be borne in mind that ho carried 10.t 51b to victory over the same distance in Auckland when a three-year-old. My choice is Advance to win, with O_nt«ou aa next beat. Motor, Hinetaura. and Sii'e Gun are the most dangarous oi the rest. The other events may result as follows:— Anniversary Handicap—Queen's Guard or Menura. Ruapehu Handicap—With nine-teen left in it is a difficult t~_k to sort out the winner. Lola— should, however, run well, and Lavalette and Narcotio are likely place getters. Electric Handicap—Potrovna and Palla.. Wellington Stakes—Achilles. Tongariro Handicap—Tikixawa and Kowhate. Nursery Handioap—King Log. Telegraph Handicap— Oatiak and Red G-auntlet.
