OBITUARY.
MR QUTNTIN HOGG,
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 21st, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, January 20. The death is announced of Mr Quintin Hogg, founder and president of the London Polytechnic Institution, aged fiftyseven. Mr Quintin Hogg was a weE-known London nverchant, and chairman of, the North British and Mercantile Insurance Company. He was born on February 14th, 1845, and was the youngest son of the Right Hon. Sir James Weir Hogg, Bt., MP. He was for seven years captain of the Old Etonian F.C., and captained the first seven teams against England, 1864-70. The London Polytechnic never properly fulfilled its purpose till taken over by Mr Hogg about twenty years ago, when he opened it as an institute for young men and women. Its bsneficial influenc. soon became apparent, and it has proved a veritable oasis in the dreary monotony of London life to many thousands of workers of both sexes.
