Mrs Ralph Parnham, from Auckland, arrived on a visit to Canterbury yesterday. Mr J. L. Morrison (Wellington), Mr Horace Jones (Melbourne), Mr E. S. Morley (England), and Mr J. A. Plimmer (Wellington) are in town. Mr and Mrs Burnett and the Misses Burnett, Miss Hislop, Mr A. Veiteh, and Mr J. Bush left by the North train yesterday morningMr J. H. PoTker left for Auckland last night.* Among the passengers by the express last nig_t were Mr James Shigh (Dunedin), Mr James Pi__ock (lavf-pool), Mr Rattray (Dunedin), and Mr G. Collins and family. Mr F. C. Raphael, hon. _e_ret_ry of the New Zealand Cricket Council, left l_st nighfc for Wellington, and will accompany Lord Hawke- cricket team round the West Coast, Mr G. B. Ritchie and Mr James Sinclair, Wairnate, left for Wellington to attend the Acclim-tisation Conference, to be held in that city. Tbe'name of Captain Colthurst Palairet bar been removed from the C__ie___ry Volunteer District Reserve Corps. Mr C. _. Johnston has - been gazetted Deputy Registrar of Marriages, #nd » in tho Hororata district. Mr Henry Thomson, who is well-known mChristch-rch, has retained from a three numw-' visit to -Victoria, The trip was taken for his health, which has broken down under a combination of maladies Their continuance confined him, while he was away, to the country townships of Dak-ford and C_als_.eld, wbere,_e was unable to get about to see anything. Unfortunately the change has not proved 1 remedy. _. Mr Jas. Cowan, for many years on the literary »taff of the Auckland "Star, * has received on appointment in the Tourist Department at Wellington.
