TO-DAY'S VOTING.

Whatever may be the d.o__on on the two great questions to ~ be submitted to the popular vote to-day, we hope, for the credit of toe district, that the electors will at any rate show that they realise the importance of the occasion by a. large attendance at <t_e poll. In the first place, they have to decide the entire municipal future* of the cdty and the surrounding boroughs—wtiether they are to continue a _Ls_r_te_ collection of mumcipaEtie., with overgrown _____j_t-_tio__, and fee_ie poweis of executive, or whether they are to be ___dg_m_ted into one compact city, able to concentrate its staff and carry out works in a comprehensive and economical f__r_cw_ We need not repeat the arguments which lead us to suggest that to-day t_& electors shorn- "STRIKE OUT THE

LAST LINE," and so vote in favour of the proposal. In the second place, the elector, have to choose a Tramway Board-* body who, if they carry out the work for which they are constituted, will have the ___t____; of some £300,000 or £350,000 of the «-*- ---payers' money, end the power to run them into yearly losses of an indefinite extent. Surely the electors throughout the -istriot must see the recessity for choosing the most capable business men they can find for such an important trust. They are fortunate in having very capable candidates, and tfcey will have no __Hc_ky in picking out the most brainy, successful business men to form a really efficient Board of Directors— for such, the Tramway Board really is. It will be nothing short of a disgrace to the electors if there is only a scanty attend_ttoe at the poHs to-day. We hope, therefore, that the people will for once bestir themselves and show that in municipal matters as well as in general j politics they are prepared to play a patriotic and public spirited part. They have it in their hands to-day to make or mar to a very la.gp extent the future prosperity of Christchurch and the surrounding districts.
