The freight on wheat from New Zealand t) Sydney is 10s per ton, and to show how our exporters are handicapped in regard to freight an compared with their American competitors, it may be mentioned that between November 15th and 26th last, bo kss than seventeen vessels were chartered to load -wheat and flour, principally froii) San Francisco to Sydney, and a. f«w to Melbourne. Eight of thews vessels were chartered as low as 10s V M to 12s 6d i>er ton. and the others from 15s to 18s 9d. There is still no bosmw-s doing in wheat, and until harvest really commences, and it in seen what the weather conditions are. thuae is not likely to be any further nu:ve in old wheat. So far only a very few paddocks of wheat have been cut with ths binder. •Some interest is now being manifested in the new oats crop, as a few early samples have been submitted. In addition to the line mentioned !ast week α-s having been sold at the outside pike of 2s sd, on trucks at Chertsey, it is lejiorted that other sales «f about 5003 bushels have taken tplace at Is lid for long, and 2s for short feed, at country stations, for delivery in about a fortnight's time. Enquiries are now coming to hand from Aus tralia for quotations for new oats, but whether it will lead to business remains •to be seen when the harvest has become general, and offers can be more safely made. The following are the current prices paid to fanners, free of commission, except where otiierwise specified: — Wheat (nominal) —Hunter's, Tuscan and Pearl, 5s to 5s 3d, at -country stations. Oats (new) —Long feed Iβ lid, short fesd 2s, at country stations. Barley (nominal) —Feed 3e to 3s Id, at country stations. Flour (millers' quotations)— Roller, £13 per ton. Pollard—£6 10s. Bran—£6. Oatmeal—£l4 10s. Oatsheaf Chaff—£4 &s 6d per ton, at country stations. Dairy Produce—Cheese, factory, 5d to 6d, dairy sd; butter, factory, local, 10id: North island, lid, f.o.bi, Wellington; farmers' separator, 9d; dairy, 8d to 9d for prime; salt (in boxes), 7d to 8d; hams and bacon, 9d to 10d; factory hams and bacon, £d higher, f.o.b.
