TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.
Sir, —Just a word in reference to Air Gundry's remarkable letter. His statement that 1 requested lum to capitalise i> assets is absolutely untrue; nor was he permitted to instruct me us to what is and what is not capital. Any "marvellous manipulation" of figures by me ia only seen through Mr Gundry's eyes. I am afraid my friend's partiality far "road rollers" has somewhat impaired; his digestive organs, and -baa affected hi* vision. The tables "B" and "8.8.' will not bear the construction he places upon them. My instruction to check the figures wae received on November 27th. Every development of the enquiry was reported to him ac it arose, but when he began, towards the last, to suggest cowl should frame my report, I deemed to retire, nor will your level-headed" readers think me guilty of a breach, of professional etiquette in so doing. As Mr Gunctry intends going into matters more fully, I will leave the affair as it is. Later I may be tempted to refer to what' he. terme "slight inaccuracies" admitted by him.—Yours, etc., GEORGK W. HULME. Christohurch, January 20th:
